Norris Just Misses Victory in Imola Showdown

19/05/2024

Lando Norris narrowly missed victory at Imola, finishing just seven-tenths behind Max Verstappen, highlighting McLaren’s remarkable progress and hinting at future wins.

Lando Norris narrowly missed a second consecutive victory after winning in Miami, finishing just seven-tenths behind Max Verstappen at Imola. The McLaren F1 driver laments a slow start and believes that one or two more laps would have been enough to clinch the win.

“Yes, it hurts to say, but one or two more laps would have allowed me to get him. It’s a shame that I lost too much time at the start of the race to Max, he was faster in the first stint and we were better in the second. It would have been great with one or two more laps, but that wasn’t the case today,” admits Norris.

The Briton praises McLaren’s progress and acknowledges that they now need to get used to competing for the front row and fighting for victories. However, this does not change the team’s pursuit of excellence, which will now be aimed at achieving better results.

“All weekend, we’ve been at a point where we can fight with Ferrari and Red Bull. We have to get used to it, we’ve done a very good job, and we focus on doing better. We’re fighting for second or first place. It’s strange to say we’re frustrated about not winning, but after the last weekend and this one, it’s what we have to expect.”
