Lando Norris confesses to a costly error in Montreal, apologising to Piastri and McLaren for a failed late-race move.
Lando Norris, visibly remorseful after the Canadian Grand Prix, admitted his mistake when he attempted to overtake teammate Oscar Piastri.
The two McLaren F1 drivers had their first on-track clash of the season, but the controversy is unlikely to last beyond the evening, as the Briton acknowledged his fault: he should not have tried to squeeze through a narrow gap on the left of the Australian late in the race.
Norris was forced to retire, while Piastri finished in fourth place.
“I’m the only one to blame, so I apologise to the whole team and also to Oscar for trying something a bit too stupid.”
“I’m just glad I didn’t ruin his race. In the end, I apologise to the team.”
McLaren had said a collision between its two drivers was inevitable.
“Yes, but this was even more stupid. It wasn’t even a ‘that’s racing’ moment, it was just stupid from me.”
How to bounce back for Austria?
“I’ll go to bed tonight, try to close my eyes and think about something else. I apologise to everyone and I’ll get back on track.”
