Aston Martin’s weekend in Monaco ended without points, as both Alonso and Stroll finished outside the top 10.
Fernando Alonso led a train of F1 cars from start to finish in Monaco without making a pit stop.
Unfortunately, there were no retirements ahead of him after the red flag, and he finished 11th, only benefiting from the misfortunes of Esteban Ocon and Lance Stroll.
“We were a bit unlucky at the start. We chose hard tyres to go long in the first stint. After the red flag, everyone changed tyres, and we had to switch to mediums and go to the end, which was… slow.”
“It was very difficult to keep the tyres alive. At one point, we considered a different strategy with Lance: a pit stop to attack Gasly. We were out of the points and had nothing to lose. It didn’t work out, but overall, it was a disappointing weekend. We need to improve for Canada.”
Lance Stroll indeed made this stop thanks to the gap created over Alonso, but it didn’t work out.
“I think we always expected this race to be about tyre management, so it wasn’t a surprise, especially after the restart. You need a big delta to overtake here, so we did what we could with the strategy.”
“I had a gap to Pierre [Gasly], so we opted for hard tyres to try to attack him in the second half of the Grand Prix. Ultimately, it didn’t work out, and we missed the point. This weekend wasn’t the easiest and shows we need to find a bit more pace.”
