Mick Schumacher faces setbacks as his ties with Mercedes falter and hopes of an F1 comeback appear to fade completely.
Mick Schumacher appears to acknowledge that his dream of returning to Formula 1 is over.
A social media post by the former Haas F1 driver has been widely interpreted as a reference to his failure to secure a 2025 seat with Sauber, owned by Audi.
Reports also suggest he has been informed that he will lose his ties with Mercedes F1, with Valtteri Bottas expected to return as reserve driver and advisor to Toto Wolff.
“Life doesn’t always go as planned, and setbacks can be tough to face,” wrote the 25-year-old son of Michael Schumacher.
“But every challenge is an opportunity to learn, grow, and come back stronger. This is just a chapter, not the entire story.”
“The journey continues, and I’m determined to overcome this.”
Schumacher has not mentioned any specific plans for his future. He is expected to remain an Endurance driver for Alpine in the WEC. “But the fact is, he will no longer have a role in Formula 1,” said Ralf Schumacher, his uncle, who confirmed the rumors of separation between his nephew and Mercedes.
The 2025 season will be the last in which Schumacher’s experience with the current generation of ground-effect cars remains relevant, with entirely new regulations set to debut in 2026.
All ten teams will launch a new generation of cars for the 2026 season, a generation Mick has no familiarity with. His experience from Haas and Mercedes will ultimately become obsolete.
