Miami GP organizers stopped Donald Trump from using the event for fundraising, enforcing strict club rules.
Donald Trump will have to forego his participation in the Miami GP this weekend, at least in the manner his campaign team had planned for him.
The Washington Post reports that Trump’s friend and associate, Steve Witkoff, had organized a fundraising event right within the F1 Paddock Club.
Guests were told “the event was for Trump and would cost $250,000 per person,” the newspaper stated, adding that the plans were so advanced that the Secret Service had contacted the race organizers.
In response, the Miami GP “sent a cease and desist letter,” explaining that the fundraiser would have violated the terms of the Paddock Club reservation. Using F1 to raise money for one’s own cause, especially a political one, is prohibited.
“If this is true, we regret to inform you that your reservation will be revoked, you will not be permitted to attend the race at any time, and we will refund you in full,” the letter stated.
