McLaren Claims Third Row in Jeddah GP Qualifying

08/03/2024

McLaren F1 elevates their game in Jeddah, with Piastri leading the charge and Norris close behind, setting a competitive tone for the race.

After securing fourth row in Bahrain, McLaren F1 will monopolize the third row in Jeddah. Oscar Piastri outperformed his teammate in the qualifying session for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and will start from the fifth position.

“Honestly, I’m quite pleased,” notes Piastri. “That was the best we could achieve; the car was good, and so was my driving, except for the moments I hit the wall. It was a strong session, we couldn’t have done better, and I’m happy.”

He doesn’t think there’s much room for improvement in the race: “Maybe Fernando, but Red Bull and Ferrari are too far ahead. We’ll see, as Mercedes will also be quick, and we need to be cautious.”

Lando Norris managed to advance at the very end of the session, securing a satisfactory result, very close to his young teammate. This outcome makes him optimistic about the performance and the race ahead.

“It was a good session, better than last year, and we extracted the maximum from the car today,” stated Norris. “I made significant progress on the last set of tires, and we maximized our performance; it’s a good day for the team.”
