McLaren Eyes Monaco Glory

Norris, Piastri Target Victory

23/05/2024

Norris and Piastri express confidence in McLaren’s potential for Monaco, eyeing a strong performance despite fierce competition.

Does McLaren F1 have a car capable of winning the Monaco Grand Prix?

Following Lando Norris’s performances in Miami (victory) and Imola (2nd, just behind Max Verstappen), the Woking-based team is gaining recognition in the paddock.

“I have no idea; it’s such a different track to what we’ve had all season,” Norris said today in Monaco.

“I think we’ll have a competitive car, but anything can happen in Monaco. It would be incredible to win Monaco. I believe it’s the one race every driver wants to win at least once because of its history and prestige. But I want to win every race, not just Monaco.”

Will Senna’s colours on the MCL38 and the McLaren suits bring luck?

“I hope so! The team did a great job on the livery, and it’s a well-chosen tribute to Ayrton, the King of Monaco. I also have a special helmet. It would be great to win the race with these colours.”

For his teammate Oscar Piastri, “we will definitely be up there for the top places.”

“After the last two weekends, we can be sure we’ll be somewhere near the front or at the front. We just have to wait and see where the final hierarchy will be because it will be very tight between us, Red Bull, and Ferrari.”

“We have reasons to be optimistic, but Red Bull and Ferrari are very tough teams to beat, so we’re keeping our feet on the ground.”
