Norris Targets Podium as McLaren Seeks Strong Finish

24/10/2024

McLaren F1 sets sights on the podium in Mexico, aiming for a strong finish after missing out in Austin.

Lando Norris was disappointed with his fourth-place finish in Austin, but the McLaren F1 driver is eager to bounce back this weekend in Mexico. He knows the challenge will be completely different from last week in Texas.

“I really enjoy coming to Mexico. The fans are passionate, and the atmosphere is always great. It’s an interesting challenge for us as drivers with the high altitude, something we train for all year long,” said Norris.

“These added challenges are always what makes it even more fun,” he continued, before stating his aim to return to the podium. “Missing out on the podium in Austin was tough, but I’m looking forward to getting back at it this weekend in Mexico. We’re going to give it everything once again and try to finish strong.”

Oscar Piastri is aiming for better results to close out the season: “I can’t wait to race in Mexico. We have five races left this season, and I’m determined to finish the year on a high with more success.”

“There’s a lot I want to achieve before the season ends. We had some good results in Austin, but we’re looking to improve on them in Mexico. We’re all extremely motivated to build momentum during this triple-header.”

One of the weekend’s stars will undoubtedly be Patricio O’Ward, who will drive Norris’ car in FP1: “I’m really excited to take part in the first free practice session of the Mexico Grand Prix. There’s nothing better than driving a Formula 1 car in front of your home crowd.”

“I’m excited to experience this circuit and to help the team continue its fight in the championship. I’m incredibly grateful to have this opportunity again. I can never thank Zak [Brown], Andrea [Stella], and the entire team enough for making this dream a reality.”

Andrea Stella, the team principal, also spoke about the altitude of the Mexico circuit: “We’re now focused on the Mexico Grand Prix, which many look forward to as it’s one of the most vibrant cities we race in.”

“The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit is challenging for the drivers because it’s 2 km above sea level, and the high altitude requires specific setups and preparation, something the team is ready for.”

“With only five races remaining, every point is crucial. The field is incredibly tight, but we will continue to push our competitors and bring as many points as possible to the team.”
