Marko Backs Verstappen Amid Red Bull Tensions

Marko Frustrated by Red Bull’s Internal Strife

01/07/2024

In solidarity with the Verstappen clan, Marko expresses frustration with Red Bull’s ongoing internal strife, stating his opinion aligns firmly with Max Verstappen’s stance.

Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko has provided an update on the situation at Red Bull regarding Max Verstappen and Christian Horner following the Austrian Grand Prix.

The Austrian is in a delicate situation with many political quarrels.

Matters remain unresolved at Red Bull. While Verstappen continues to perform on the track, numerous internal struggles persist.

It began with team boss Horner, who has been accused of harassment by his assistant. Jos Verstappen has already stated that Horner should leave, and this weekend in Austria, another confrontation occurred. Verstappen senior was supposed to drive an old Red Bull car, but Horner blocked him.

Max himself spoke out and condemned Horner’s actions regarding his father, clearly siding with Jos. Jos has also twice hinted that moving Max to Mercedes F1 is not off the table if the atmosphere doesn’t improve, implying that Horner’s departure is necessary. He reiterated this sentiment to the Dutch media after the race last night.

“This is not a good situation,” admits Marko.

“But we have now found a solution. We have agreed that we must focus and, despite our problems, ensure Max becomes champion again. We need to give our all together and deliver another title for Max. That takes precedence over everything else.”

Another title in 2024… But what about 2025? No answer from Marko!

When asked if Max’s presence is the reason Marko is still at Red Bull, the Austrian responded firmly: “Yes.”

There is much speculation about the relationship between Horner and Marko, but the advisor reveals he can do little.

“I am old; I have been in the sport for a long time. But you can’t banish me. I have my opinion, and it is the same as Max’s. We need to ensure he continues to win as much as possible. We shall see what happens after that.”

The door remains open for another scenario from Marko’s side. Everything could hinge on a potential judicial inquiry against Horner by the British justice system if the assistant decides to pursue it. The outcome of the internal appeal she has requested remains unknown.
