Lawson Gets Ricciardo’s Tips Ahead of Canada Debut

Liam Lawson enters his first Canadian Grand Prix armed with Ricciardo’s track tips, aiming for a strong showing with Racing Bulls.

Liam has revealed the advice he received from Daniel Ricciardo ahead of his first Canadian Grand Prix.

Lawson is racing at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the first time this weekend, having competed in the second half of the F1 season in 2023 and 2024.

Ricciardo is a former winner in Montreal, having claimed a surprise victory in 2014 for his first Grand Prix win after a late overtake on Nico Rosberg.

He qualified fifth last year in what would be his final Canadian Grand Prix and shared some tips with Lawson.

“It’s reassuring to know that the car was quick here last year, but at the same time, we often look at last year’s results, and to be honest, they don’t often repeat,” Lawson said this Thursday in Montreal.

“So on tracks where we maybe weren’t very good, we have been this year, and vice versa.”

“It looks cool, and I actually spoke to Daniel about it last week, and he told me he loved it.”

“He advised me to use a lot of kerbs — that’s probably the main advantage to take; it’s a bit unique compared to most of the tracks we go to.”

“It can be quite bumpy, and obviously, there are a lot of kerbs, so that’s something we all enjoy.”

“It’s a track that creates competition, and the presence of double DRS zones always brings that, along with heavy braking zones and the weather too.”

“The weather looks good for now, but in the past, it’s changed very quickly, so you have to stay sharp.”
