Haas F1 drivers Bearman and Ocon face kerb-handling issues in Montreal, struggling with VF-25 setup ahead of Canadian Grand Prix qualifying.
Ollie Bearman posted the 16th fastest time in Free Practice 2 yesterday in Montreal and was not very satisfied with the overall performance of his Haas F1.
The Briton reported, like his teammate Esteban Ocon, that the VF-25 was having trouble tackling the kerbs without being overly unsettled.
This is a crucial element of performance in Canada, and the team will be looking for solutions before qualifying.
“It was a tough day, but the afternoon was definitely better than the morning,” Bearman said.
“We made a few changes in the afternoon, which helped us improve and close the gap to the midfield. There’s still work to do before Free Practice 3.”
“Driving over the kerbs was challenging, but we expected that coming into the weekend, as it’s somewhat characteristic of our car. We’re slightly off the pace, so let’s see what we can do; we often perform better on Saturday than we do on Friday.”
Esteban Ocon felt that “it was interesting to get some laps in good conditions, as last year the track was wet all weekend and we only had one dry session.”
“This Friday was about understanding things to ensure a good qualifying, and our F1 isn’t comfortable over the kerbs.”
“We have a clear direction, it’s very tight, and execution will have to be perfect in qualifying, but that’s what we’re working on, and if we get it right, we should be in the mix.”
