Imola upgrades to keep two Formula 1 races in Italy, matching modern standards with Monza for F1’s rigorous demands.

Imola Mayor Marco Panieri stated that the region is “working on multiple levels” to maintain two Formula 1 races in Italy long-term, with Imola alongside Monza.

Imola returned to the F1 calendar during the 2020 pandemic and has been present since, except for an unforeseen hiatus last season due to flooding that hit the area.

The Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari has since coexisted on the F1 calendar with Monza, making Italy the only European country to host two F1 Grand Prix.

The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix has a contract in place until the end of 2025, with a very likely option to extend for an additional year since last year’s race did not occur.

Panieri revealed that one of his main priorities is now to extend this agreement to ensure Imola remains on the F1 list in a more predictable future.

“While awaiting the excitement of this year’s Grand Prix from May 17 to 19, we continue to work at multiple levels to keep these two GPs in Italy and give them a long-term perspective,” Panieri said.

Like Monza, the site is undergoing work to modernize its facilities amid a warning from F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali that older circuits cannot rely on “history” to keep their place.

“Imola is ready for this year, has already made and is making significant investments in structures, track, hospitality, and multifunctionality of spaces, working on enhancing the Motor Valley and particularly Terre e Motori.”

“I would like to thank the partners, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Infrastructure and Transport and Enterprise and Made in Italy, the ICE Agency, the Emilia-Romagna Region, and the ACI.”

“Formula 1 is an opportunity for attraction, visibility, and a reboot for Made in Italy that is invaluable for the entire country, not just for Emilia-Romagna.”

The president of the Automobile Club of Italy [ACI] Angelo Sticchi also praised the presence of two Italian circuits on the 2025 calendar announced last week.

He also thanked F1 for appreciating the commitments that Italian institutions are making to enhance the quality of its circuits.

“The announcement of the F1 calendar confirms the ACI as the only organization globally to host two world Grand Prix on its territory and is a fair recognition of the commitment we make to ensure fans can enjoy the spectacle of Formula 1 in increasingly comfortable and modern conditions, with infrastructure to current standards.”
