Horner Remains, Ecclestone Claims ‘Innocence’

14/02/2024

Amid scrutiny and a pivotal investigation, Christian Horner tenaciously leads Red Bull’s F1 team, backed by Bernie Ecclestone’s staunch defense of his innocence.

Christian Horner remains hard at work as usual at the helm of Red Bull’s Formula 1 team, with his friend Bernie Ecclestone insisting that the team principal is technically “innocent.”

Horner’s entire career is under scrutiny as Red Bull GmbH, the team’s parent company, investigates allegations from a female staff member accusing the fifty-year-old of exhibiting controlling or aggressive behavior within the management.

The investigation continues and appears set to definitively overlap with the imminent launch (this Thursday at 8 pm) of Red Bull’s 2024 car, the RB20, and the start of pre-season testing on February 21.

Horner was indeed present yesterday, fully clad in Red Bull team attire, as the new RB20 debuted in a shakedown session during a private event at the Silverstone circuit.

Besides attending the 2024 car’s track debut on Tuesday, he fully intends to be present at the launch on Thursday.

Ecclestone Defends Horner Amid Controversy

Former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, a friend of Horner’s, confirms his role as a behind-the-scenes adviser.

“Red Bull is in the public eye as a company and needs answers,” Ecclestone explains.

“We’ve been good friends for a long time. He’s now accused. Until proven otherwise, he’s innocent.”

Ecclestone also told AFP: “Besides keeping his head down, my advice to Christian is to do nothing and wait to see what happens.”

“I’m in close contact with him. The problem is that when you are successful, you make a lot of enemies. What I hope is that someone will talk to him, and to the woman in question, individually, and that everything will be resolved.”

As for what triggered the whole saga, Ecclestone has his theory.

“It seems to me that Dietrich Mateschitz’s death created a vacuum. Several people have taken different positions and saw an opportunity to invent different stories and hurt Horner.”

“They want to overthrow him. He has achieved tremendous success and made incredible efforts, not only for the team but also for the sport.”
