Ahead of the expected dominant season, Christian Horner’s career at Red Bull is threatened by a sensitive case.
As a new season of expected domination for Red Bull approaches, the entire Formula 1 career of the team’s long-standing boss, Christian Horner, hangs in the balance following a case involving inappropriate behavior towards a team member.
Auto Bild reports that rumors first emerged during the recent ski event in Kitzbühel, attended by other team principals like Toto Wolff and Zak Brown.
“It all makes no sense,” the 50-year-old Brit declared upon leaving the F1 Commission meeting in London, after firmly denying these allegations.
Red Bull is conducting the investigation from its headquarters in Austria, with an external specialist lawyer.
Dr. Helmut Marko, whose position within the team has recently been questioned amid rumors of a power struggle with Horner, refused to comment: “I am not saying anything about this.”
Red Bull’s leaders, including new CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, reportedly advised Horner to resign voluntarily – but he has refused and continues to lead the team to this day.
However, former F1 driver Christijan Albers believes Horner’s position is now very fragile.
Horner’s Fate Amid Red Bull Crisis
“Whether it happened or not, his head will be cut off,” he told De Telegraaf, which broke the story yesterday. “Horner has some enemies in the paddock, and it is certain, especially as a winning team, this will be a tough story for him.”
“It’s good that things like this are now discussed in the world and people are not afraid it will harm their own career if they say something.”
“On the other hand, there are also people who abuse this kind of thing with bad intentions. It can completely destroy someone’s career, especially in all the press.”
“It’s very difficult to turn the situation around once an investigation is announced. The big problem is that it’s now spreading everywhere. So even if he did nothing, he still has a problem that can’t be stopped.”
Albers assumes that Horner, married to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, is currently in talks to limit the damage.
“There’s only one option for him: try to reach an agreement with the victim as quickly as possible to extinguish the case. It’s the only way to keep his career afloat.”
The unveiling of the Red Bull RB20 will take place on February 20. Let’s bet that Red Bull will want a clear answer in this case before that date, one way or the other, as the team’s communication is already suffering on social media with many very negative comments under the team’s posts.
