Ferrari endured a troubled start to the Canadian GP as Lewis Hamilton struggled with pace and setup during Friday’s F1 practice.
Lewis Hamilton finished eighth on the first day of practice for the Canadian Grand Prix with Ferrari. The British driver is pleased with the handling of his car, but hopes to unlock more raw performance.
“The car is nice to drive, but we’re currently lacking pace and experienced some graining on the long runs. We’ll keep working through the night to make the car more competitive for tomorrow,” said Hamilton.
Charles Leclerc suffered a crash that significantly impacted his day, as he completed only nine laps of the circuit. However, he doesn’t believe it will negatively affect his weekend: “In FP1, a small lock-up had major consequences.”
“I’m mainly sorry for the team, as we couldn’t run for the rest of the first session and all of FP2. Apart from that, I felt comfortable in the car, which is a positive. So I don’t think what happened today should affect the rest of the weekend for us.”
