Hamilton Frustrated After Lonely Monaco Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton endured a frustrating Monaco GP, finishing P5 after unclear radio calls and lacking the pace to challenge front runners.

Lewis Hamilton finished fifth in Monaco after starting from seventh position.

The Ferrari driver benefited from Racing Bulls’ strategic decisions just behind him and from Fernando Alonso’s retirement, but still ended up far behind, 45 seconds off the lead.

“These things happen, that’s how it is, but no, I still don’t know why. This race was a bit unusual, but I didn’t have Charles (Leclerc)’s pace.”

Regarding the two-stop strategy, he added: “I can’t comment on the rest of the race.”

“Personally, I was in the middle of nowhere. I started with a penalty, behind two cars, then found myself in no man’s land, without really fighting anyone. From that point on, it was fairly straightforward.”

Hamilton also admitted to more poor radio communication with his team, particularly when he received a message to push because it was “his race.”

“It wasn’t very clear, the information wasn’t very clear. I didn’t understand what ‘this is our race’ meant. I didn’t know what I was fighting for. I wasn’t close to the guys in front. I was so far from them. At least, we’re making progress.”
