Hamilton’s Final Mercedes Year: Goals & Reflections

14/02/2024

Lewis Hamilton embarks on his last season with Mercedes F1, unveiling ambitions with the W15 launch. Reflecting on Brackley and Brixworth’s winter, he embraces the journey, highlighting teamwork and the pursuit of excellence.

“The lessons from the past two years have helped us find our direction. It has allowed us to identify our guiding star. It’s still a work in progress, but we will face all challenges head-on, with an open mind and diligent work,” Hamilton stated.

“This winter, we focused on bringing the team back to where it was after two difficult years. Now, we want to understand the data, the car, so George and I can anticipate what lies ahead.”

“If you’re not comfortable with the car, you can’t extract its maximum performance. A more stable and predictable car will enable us to unlock potential not only from the car but also from ourselves as drivers.”

An “emotional” offseason for him and the team

Hamilton acknowledges that preparing for this season has been emotional, as it’s the last winter he spent with the team before joining Ferrari in 2025. The Brit praises the joy he has experienced working with Mercedes since his arrival in 2013.

“It’s been emotional for us to be here since I arrived in 2013, I’ve spent 11 years with the team, starting the 12th, and it’s a privilege to work with these people. We see the work done this winter, we see the car being born, and it’s the best time of the year.”

“This is the first time I’m seeing the car in full, I know everything that’s under the hood that people don’t see, and George and I are eager to drive it on track. I know what this team is capable of.”

“I’m incredibly grateful for the work of every person in this team. Whenever you’re in the factory, you can see the energy and determination of everyone. We’re all highly motivated for the coming year and will give everything we have for the journey ahead.”

“I’ve always loved working with the team. There’s a human element behind this high-performance machine we’re building. Without all these hardworking people, we wouldn’t be where we are. It’s great to have a common goal to focus on all year long, it’s a privilege.”
