Hamilton Breaks Silence on Ferrari Transfer Saga

Hamilton Breaks Silence on Ferrari Transfer Saga

03/02/2024

Lewis Hamilton has spoken about his upcoming departure from Mercedes F1 at the end of 2024, but not yet about his move to Ferrari in 2025.

Indeed, Ferrari only officially announced this decision through a single-line statement, without any further comment.

The British driver corrected this by using a neutral platform, his social media, to discuss his switch to Ferrari in a year.

“These have been crazy days filled with a whole range of emotions,” he wrote.

“But as you all know now, after 11 incredible years at Mercedes, the time has come for me to start a new chapter in my life, and I will join Ferrari in 2025.”

“I feel incredibly lucky, having achieved with Mercedes things I could only dream of as a child, to now have the chance to fulfill another childhood dream: to drive in Ferrari red.”

Hamilton highlighted how hard it was to decide to leave a team he has been associated with since his competition beginnings, as Mercedes supported him already during his time at McLaren.

“Mercedes has been a big part of my life since I was 13 years old. Thus, this decision has been the hardest I’ve ever had to make.”

Hamilton’s Farewell: Gratitude, Records, New Beginnings

“I am incredibly proud of everything we have achieved together, and I am very grateful for the hard work and dedication of everyone I’ve worked with over the years, and of course to Toto Wolff, for his friendship, advice, and management.”

“Together, we have won titles, broken records, and achieved the most successful driver/team partnership in F1 history. And of course, I cannot forget Niki Lauda, who was a great supporter and whom I miss every day.”

“I must also share my immense gratitude to the entire Mercedes-Benz board and all the company members in Germany and around the world for supporting me over these 26 years. But the time has come for a change and to take on a new challenge.”

Hamilton thus compares his signing with Ferrari to his incredible gamble 11 years ago of leaving McLaren for Mercedes F1.

“I still remember the feeling of taking a leap of faith into the unknown when I first joined Mercedes in 2013.”

“I know some people didn’t understand it at the time, but I was right to make the move then, and that’s the feeling I have again now. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can bring to Ferrari with this new opportunity and what we can achieve together.”

“However, for now, I’m not thinking about 2025. Focusing on the upcoming season and getting back on track with Mercedes.”

Hamilton Vows Strong Finish with Mercedes

“I’m more motivated than ever, fitter and more focused than ever, and I want to help Mercedes win once again. I’m committed 100% to the work I have to do and determined to end my partnership with the team on a high note.”

“Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me, you’ve all supported me as I pursue my dreams, and I hope I can continue to make you proud. As always, I’m sending you my love and positive energy.”
