Nico Hülkenberg highlights key factors for Haas F1 to end their five-year drought and score points at the challenging Monaco Grand Prix.
Nico Hülkenberg outlined the two crucial factors that will determine if he and Haas F1 can break the team’s five-year wait to score points at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Since 2019, the American team has not finished in the top 10 on the streets of Monte Carlo, when Romain Grosjean secured a 10th-place finish.
Hülkenberg has started the current F1 season in fine form, with his performance foundation built on strong qualifying speed – a hallmark of his since his full-time return to F1 in early 2023.
With Monaco’s streets notoriously tough for overtaking, a good qualifying performance is essential for a strong Grand Prix.
“Looking on paper, you could say yes,” he replied when asked if Haas had a car capable of a top-10 qualifying finish.
“But then, I know Monaco and the pain it can bring if things go wrong. I know I also need to find confidence with the car and the right harmony to achieve that.
“It’s never easy here to nail a lap and be satisfied – it’s extremely challenging. So, I feel ready but have respect for that – we will need to work well to achieve it.”
“I hope things will be better than last year. Some indications suggest it should or could be better.”
“But I don’t want to speak too loudly about it. There are quite a few differences in the car this year compared to last year. Especially in areas where we had difficulties, things are quite different now. So, that makes me optimistic that we have a better package.”
