Haas F1 eyes a new lead driver for 2025, with Bottas as a potential candidate.

Kevin Magnussen’s seat at Haas F1 for 2025 is not secure, warns team principal Ayao Komatsu.

The small American outfit is saddened to part ways with Nico Hülkenberg at the end of the year, as the German has accepted an offer from Sauber-Audi.

“Nico has been a good benchmark in terms of our car’s speed,” Komatsu stated in Miami.

“He’s a driver whose feedback can drive a car’s development. His work ethic is incredible.”

“We will try to replace him with someone who has similar qualities. We need that as a team.”

Considering Magnussen has been with Haas much longer than Hülkenberg, Komatsu’s remarks might sound alarming for the 31-year-old Danish driver.

“At the moment, we have two vacant seats,” admits Komatsu. “One of our current drivers is leaving, so naturally, that increases Kevin’s chances. But I don’t want to go into details.”

“We need someone who can be a reference for the team.”

Haas F1 has reportedly made contact with another reference driver, Valtteri Bottas, and discussions have been initiated. Both Alpine F1 drivers are also on Komatsu’s list.

“We’re still a small team. We need a driver determined to develop the team with us. Work ethic is crucial, that’s all I can say.”

Komatsu also confirmed that Haas F1 is considering Oliver Bearman, Ferrari’s 18-year-old protégé, for the other seat next year.
