Gunther Steiner’s New Role: Bahrain Season Opener

26/02/2024

Gunther Steiner, former Haas F1 boss, joins Bahrain 2024 opener with RTL, showcasing his next chapter after a notable F1 tenure.

Former Haas F1 team boss, Gunther Steiner, will be in Bahrain for the opening of the 2024 season this weekend.

The 58-year-old, who has gained global popularity through his charismatic portrayal in Netflix’s Formula 1 series, Drive To Survive, has accepted a consulting role with the German TV channel RTL.

RTL has struck a deal with Sky Deutschland to cover seven of the 24 race weekends live this season, including Hungary, Spa, Zandvoort, Monza, Baku, and Las Vegas.

“Gunther is a true character extremely popular among many Formula 1 fans,” stated Inga Leschek, RTL’s executive.

Steiner was ousted by Haas owner Gene Haas, with the two disagreeing over the future direction of the struggling F1 team, in addition to very poor results. However, it has been revealed in the last few hours that Steiner demanded equity in the American team in exchange for bringing in a new sponsor worth 20 million dollars. Gene Haas refused to give him any share.

Regarding his new role, Steiner says: “I will speak my mind but remain neutral. But obviously, as you know, I say things, I speak clearly.”

Note that Steiner will also be present in Melbourne as a consultant for Network 10, the national channel that broadcasts F1 there.
