Guanyu Zhou Touted as Haas F1's Plan B for 2025

Haas Eyes Zhou Amid Potential Ocon, Sainz Moves

Amid speculation, Guanyu Zhou is eyed by Haas F1 as a backup for 2025, as moves involving Ocon and Sainz unfold.

Sauber / Stake F1 driver Guanyu Zhou has emerged as a surprise candidate to join Haas F1 for the 2025 season.

According to the latest reports from the Chinese driver’s circle and the German media AMuS, Zhou is also very high on the list of candidates to join the American team.

Oliver Bearman is “almost” confirmed for next year, but the identity of his teammate remains unclear.

Esteban Ocon is the favourite, but if Carlos Sainz does join Williams, the Frenchman would likely choose Audi F1 over Haas.

Zhou would then be plan B and, with $35 to $40 million in Chinese backing, he presents an interesting option for Haas, who are currently operating right at the budget cap, with little room for allowed extras (management salaries, marketing, etc.).

The Chinese driver could therefore save his place, even though his performances, as well as those of Sauber, have been disappointing, with teammate Valtteri Bottas completely dominating him since the start of the season.

A return to Alpine could also be considered. Zhou spent several years in their driver academy before joining Sauber in 2022. Again, Zhou’s connections with China could interest a manufacturer like Alpine/Renault.

Alpine is also considering Jack Doohan and Mick Schumacher to support Pierre Gasly… if he indeed stays!
