Gasly Eyes Improvement After Tough Practice

Alpine F1 faces challenges at the Australian Grand Prix, with Gasly and Ocon aiming to overcome free practice hurdles.

Alpine F1 picked up at the start of this third weekend right where it left off at the conclusion of the Saudi Arabian GP. Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon are in the bottom quarter of the standings in the free practice sessions of the Australian Grand Prix, hoping to advance their A524.

“It was a busy day in Melbourne,” Gasly stated. “We encountered some minor issues with the car, slightly limiting our running in Free Practice 1. We managed to rectify this for the second session, resulting in much better sensations behind the wheel.”

“The overall balance was quite good. We were probably stronger with the medium tires, indicating we have work to do with the softs, with which we seemed to struggle more. There’s work ahead to understand how to get the tires into the ideal window before qualifying.”

“We’re aware of our current situation and know it will be a challenge, so we’ll continue to work tirelessly to improve the material at our disposal. Tire degradation seems quite significant on the long runs, which could lead to a more turbulent race.”

Ocon Targets Improvement in Melbourne

Esteban Ocon also aimed to do his best, hoping to qualify better than in the previous two races: “It was a productive day and always enjoyable to drive in front of filled stands on a Friday, as usual with the fans here in Melbourne.”

“The field is very tight, as is often the case at Albert Park, so extracting the maximum from our package will be crucial as it could mean a difference of one or two lines on the grid. There are still some areas we can improve by tomorrow.”

“We will continue to work hard overnight to prepare for the qualifiers. It was interesting to test the new compound for this event, softer compared to last year. Degradation is low on this circuit, so this change could offer different strategic options and opportunities for the Grand Prix on Sunday.”
