Gasly Alpine F1 Bahrain Test 2024

Gasly’s Alpine F1 Test Day Ends Early in Bahrain

22/02/2024

Pierre Gasly began Alpine F1’s Bahrain testing with focus, despite an early end due to a red flag, aiming for more than just speed.

Pierre Gasly kicked off the program for Alpine F1 this morning, on the second day of testing in Bahrain.

With the 14th fastest time at 1’33’’804, the goal clearly isn’t to chase times with the A524.

The Frenchman managed 33 laps before the session was cut short by a red flag, truncating the morning.

“It was a good day for the team in Bahrain, with numerous tests conducted and a lot of data to analyze. On my part, our session was unfortunately shortened by a red flag. It’s never ideal since we couldn’t fully complete our program, but sometimes that’s how it goes.”

“I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel on Friday afternoon to continue optimizing the package. We continue to learn different things every time the car hits the track, and we’re doing everything possible to maximize our learning before the first race of the season. After today’s shorter than expected day, my track time will be very important tomorrow.”

Ocon’s Productive Test Day Nets Progress

Fortunately, Esteban Ocon was able to add 78 laps during the 5 hours of running in the afternoon. His 8th fastest time at 1’32’’061 was also modest.

“It was a very long session today with extended running in the afternoon. We had some track time to make up for after the morning was cut short by a red flag, and we managed to complete the planned program.”

“We improved the car throughout the day, and it was nice to try it in different conditions, more reflective of next weekend’s Grand Prix. We also got to do a bit of racing towards the end, which was fun too. It usually doesn’t happen during testing, but everyone seemed quite eager this time and it was very exciting with several cars side by side and sparks flying before the first turn. I’m definitely eager to get back to racing now!”
