Formula 1 Locks In Las Vegas Grand Prix Until 2027

F1 extends the Las Vegas Grand Prix through 2027, hinting at plans for a long-term presence in the heart of entertainment.

Formula 1 has announced the extension of Las Vegas on the calendar for two additional years, securing its future through the end of 2027.

The iconic “Sin City” returned to the F1 calendar in 2023 after a 31-year absence, on a brand-new street circuit designed by Carsten Tilke.

Held on Saturday night, which corresponds to Sunday morning in Europe, the race offers a home-track spectacle. Last year, it saw Max Verstappen claim his fourth consecutive title there.

The 6.1 km circuit incorporates some of the city’s most famous landmarks. Las Vegas holds a unique position on the calendar, as it is the only race entirely promoted by F1 itself, rather than a local organization.

This suggests the race will likely continue well beyond 2027, especially as F1 continues to push for greater integration and presence in the United States.

Emily Prazer, CEO and Chief Commercial Officer of F1, stated: “We have collectively agreed to a two-year extension for 2026 and 2027.”

“We want to ensure we continue to evolve our approach. But the goal is a much longer-term agreement.”

“As we all know, the race faced challenges, but we’ve come out ahead. So we want to make sure it keeps working for both sides.”

“We therefore came together and agreed that this was the best approach. We are planning with a longer-term view, but that’s roughly where we stand right now.”

Many F1 races are typically extended for much longer periods, such as Miami, which remains on the calendar through 2041.

The shorter deal for Las Vegas doesn’t mean much, as explained by Steve Hill, President of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

“The duration of the extensions doesn’t say much, other than it’s just a progressive development, because we know what’s going to happen over the next two years.”

“We expect this race to become permanent, and we will simply keep planning extensions that will likely expand over time. We can’t replicate the structure of other races because Vegas holds a unique position.”
