Flavio Briatore reappears in F1 leadership, Absent from press conferences for 16 years, the Italian stepped back into the spotlight in Barcelona, replacing Oliver Oakes, who mysteriously resigned.
True to form, Briatore did not hold back
Asked about Alpine, he admitted the team is not progressing as expected, despite high hopes following his arrival.
“We are making progress, but it’s not showing,” he stated
According to him, rebuilding will take time. Too many recent changes are preventing the team from being competitive right now.
The target is 2027. Yes, but why not?
Briatore says Alpine is aiming for podiums and wins in two years. He believes in the Mercedes engine project and a fresh momentum.
But the present is tough. Alpine only beats Sauber
Briatore is focused on future unity, but stays realistic: current performance is “far from satisfying.”
The boss is also irritated by the spending, especially on drivers
He supports including salaries in the cost cap. “Costs are exploding, but the show remains the same,” he summed up.
For Briatore, F1 has become too expensive for what it delivers
He praises the budget cap but calls for broader adjustments to ensure fairness.
And what about the drivers? Flavio is far from lenient
Regarding Colapinto, he sends mixed signals. “We’ll see, he has to prove himself,” he says. Yet no clear limit is given.
One thing is certain: Colapinto’s place is not guaranteed
Mistakes on track, like in Monaco, weigh heavily. Barcelona is seen as a decisive test.
If he disappoints again, Briatore could replace him
Reserve driver Paul Aron remains in the wings. “We are only looking for performance,” the Alpine boss stated.
Even Gasly is not safe from Briatore’s doubts
Flavio says it is hard to judge his level with an uncompetitive car. “Let’s give him a good car first.”
No direct criticism, but no real defense either
The Frenchman is clearly under scrutiny. And the Italian says that without a solid car, it is hard to assess a driver.
Briatore compares the situation to a dilemma: chicken or egg?
Should the driver or the car be blamed? For him, only overall performance will settle it.
Horner, beside him, mocks Flavio’s vague answers
“I have no idea what you’re saying,” he replied, half smiling, half confused. Chilly atmosphere between team bosses.
Alpine’s future is as uncertain as it is tense
Between distant hopes and absent results, Briatore wants to shake the tree. Some may fall sooner than expected.
