Flavio Briatore, executive advisor to Alpine F1, has stated that he prefers to “take time” before finalising the replacement for Oliver Oakes.
Oakes resigned from his position as team principal of Alpine’s Formula 1 operation earlier this month for personal reasons, prompting the team to undergo another management reshuffle.
Briatore has temporarily taken over Oakes’ responsibilities, but the French manufacturer is working behind the scenes to find a direct successor.
Speaking in Barcelona today, Briatore expressed sadness that Oakes had to step down less than a year into his tenure, but stressed that the search for a permanent replacement would not be rushed.
“We are still looking. For now, nothing has changed.”
“I am genuinely sorry for Ollie because I had a very good relationship with him. He was an excellent team principal.”
“As everyone knows, for personal reasons, he resigned from Alpine. We are looking for someone to replace him.”
“We won’t make any mistakes in choosing a replacement. I prefer to take my time.”
“As soon as we’ve decided who the new team principal will be, we’ll let you know.”
Briatore suggested that many potential candidates are already showing interest in Alpine, as the team prepares to transition from a works outfit to a Mercedes customer team in 2026.
Asked about the qualities he’s seeking in a team principal, Briatore replied: “We’re looking for someone who brings a lot to the table. This kind of position is rare, and so are the people who can fill it.”
“We’re looking for someone competent, someone who understands, someone who wants to join the team.”
“I know a few people who are interested in being part of this new adventure with Alpine, and we will decide.”
