Vasseur: Tough Weekend, Key Lessons for Ferrari

Ferrari faced challenges at Silverstone, where they lost points but gained valuable insights, according to Vasseur.

Ferrari experienced another challenging weekend at Silverstone, with just one car in Q3 and one finishing in the points. Frédéric Vasseur, the Scuderia’s director, praised Carlos Sainz’s fifth place, while Charles Leclerc lost his strategic gamble. Ferrari now holds only a seven-point lead over Mercedes.

“It wasn’t an easy weekend, but Carlos had a good race, took a solid start, was quick in the rain, and his final position was the best he could achieve, including the extra point for the fastest lap,” Vasseur stated.

“For Charles, it was a bit more difficult because we gambled by switching him early to intermediates, and the strategy did not pay off. He had a good start and gained three positions, then lost time passing Lance Stroll.”

“So, when both Mercedes went off the track at turn 1 in the rain, we decided to switch Charles to intermediates, as an aggressive strategy was the only way to try and move him up the standings. As we saw, it did not bear fruit and probably cost us a sixth place.”

The Frenchman assures that the assessment is positive for Ferrari, which continues to understand its car as races progress, even as it reverted to its old Imola package at Silverstone: “This weekend, we learned a lot about the car and made a significant step forward.”

“It’s encouraging for the rest of the season. Now, we need to build on what we learned and apply it to the upcoming races. Everyone in the team, including myself, is eager to achieve good results.”
