F1 racers recently shared insights on Formula E’s growing significance and their personal views on the electric series.
Max Verstappen appreciates the grid of the 100% electric single-seater discipline, but he likes the cars themselves and the circuits less.
“What I like about Formula E is that there are a lot of good drivers,” notes Verstappen. “You might have raced with them before or seen them, so the level is very high. Of course, some of my friends also race in Formula E, so I always keep an eye on it.”
“It’s not a category I would like to drive in myself in the future. It was really cool to see the city track, but at the same time, there was a jump on the track, so I don’t even know who signed up for that, they must have been drunk. But yes, I still enjoy it because there is great talent, and that’s what makes it more exciting to watch.”
Sergio Pérez agrees with his teammate and praises the role of Formula E: “I completely agree with Max. I think it’s great to have a category that provides an opportunity for drivers who cannot participate in F1 or other series.”
“They have another category in which they can earn their money, live their passion. I think that’s a good thing. I think as a category, we need to respect what they are focusing on. And I think they are doing a very good job with it.”
Carlos Sainz is also enthusiastic about the electric championship: “Yes, I’m glad this category exists because there are a lot of talents who, for one reason or another, couldn’t reach Formula 1 and had the talent to be at a very similar level to the 20 drivers you see today in F1.”
“So the fact of having this category just gives an opportunity to these 20 other drivers to live off their passion, their driving, to compete against each other. And I have many good friends whom I’ve faced in different categories. It’s great to see that they have this opportunity. And it’s also good competition. So I’m happy that it exists.”
