F1 Andretti Global Rejection

F1 Andretti Rejection Sparks Outrage in US Racing

01/02/2024

The refusal of F1 to accept Andretti Global for 2025 has ignited a wave of discontent across the United States, particularly among IndyCar drivers.

Former team driver Conor Daly found the Formula One Management’s (FOM) dubious justifications to be “one of the top five most ridiculous statements I’ve ever read.”

Callum Ilott, who raced last year in IndyCar, was very surprised: “I’m not sure what they’re missing to make it into F1. If they can’t, I don’t see who else ever could.”

Oriol Servia, who has competed in two races for Andretti during his extensive IndyCar and ChampCar career, sharply criticized FOM’s decision: “I’m sure the decision is more complex than it appears to some of us, but I found the reasons behind this decision to be contemptible and insulting.”

“Andretti Global has brought funding, commitment, a leading manufacturer with Cadillac and GM, a U.S.-based team, deserved ‘charisma,’ and three generations of excellence in motorsport.”

“It’s hard to argue that Mario Andretti and Michael Andretti themselves are not part of the foundation of today’s F1. As a team, they have clinched victories across all championships they have entered: Indycar, IMSA, Formula E, Indianapolis 500, Extreme E, Indy Lights.”

“F1 does not want us”

Scott McLaughlin, a Penske driver in IndyCar after shining in Australian Supercars, lamented: “A racing category wants to expand in the United States but no longer allows any American team to participate. That makes sense.”

“It’s fine. Keep your 10 teams. In a few weeks, we’ll have 27 cars within a second of each other, not knowing on Sunday morning who will win the race. We wish you all the best.”

However, Graham Rahal stated he was not surprised by the decision, recalling that F1 has always been hesitant to consider Andretti’s entry: “F1 is an elitist sport. They don’t want us. Never forget that.”

“They want the money from American corporations, they want the money from wealthy American individuals. But they don’t care about the rest. It has always been this way, and it always will be.”
