Jeremy Clarkson hints at Adrian Newey’s preference for Oxfordshire over Maranello in a revealing quip.
Adrian Newey does not seem keen on joining Ferrari, according to Jeremy Clarkson, the former host of Top Gear.
Newey was back with the Red Bull team at Silverstone last weekend, despite a gradual reduction in his technical involvement ahead of an eventual departure.
The 65-year-old designer has been strongly linked with potential moves to Aston Martin F1 or Ferrari, based in Maranello, as well as several other F1 teams.
The only certainty is that Newey’s future will officially remain under wraps until September when his nondisclosure clause expires.
However, Clarkson, who attended Repton School in Derbyshire with Newey and remains friends with the F1 design legend, hinted at what the future might hold at the British Grand Prix.
“Fancy an exclusive?” Clarkson said while being hosted by the Alpine F1 team at Silverstone.
“I know Adrian is looking for a house in Oxfordshire, not Maranello.”
Hint or provocation? Clarkson then burst into his legendary laugh without further comment.
Clarkson is indeed close to Alpine F1 following a lost bet on social media, and the Enstone team is located in Oxfordshire… as is Williams F1, while Haas F1 has a satellite base in the county.
Aston Martin F1, meanwhile, is based in Northamptonshire (next to the Silverstone circuit), just north of Oxfordshire. As is Mercedes F1.
Clarkson’s mischievous side certainly necessitates taking his comments with a pinch of salt as we try to decipher what Newey might choose for 2025 and beyond.
Other sources indeed report that Amanda Newey, his wife, is still regularly seen in Italy scouting for a new family property.
