Valtteri Bottas expressed surprise over Stake F1’s early announcement of a new driver and engineer.
Valtteri Bottas was surprised to learn that Stake F1, set to become Audi in 2026, confirmed Nico Hülkenberg for next year this early. However, he somewhat expected it, considering the nationality of the new recruit.
“The timing is quite early and a bit surprising,” Bottas stated. “But the driver market is beginning to move; that’s clear. It also makes sense—he’s German, and Audi has made it clear they wanted a German driver.”
In another unexpected turn for the Finn, he found out he would have a new engineer after having worked with Alex Chan since joining. He is unsure of the reasons: “I think that’s more a question for the team.”
“It was a rather sudden change. It’s a Sprint weekend, so working with a new guy won’t be easy, but we’re trying to make the most of it. He’s receiving a lot of support, but yes, it’s a pretty sudden change.”
However, Bottas sees nothing unusual or alarming: “I think it’s part of the team’s rebuilding process. Some people are leaving, others are coming, and clearly, many of these decisions are out of my hands. It shows that things are changing.”
“I don’t know all the reasons behind each decision, but it shows that things are changing. I’m not aware of all the reasons behind each decision made, but it simply indicates that changes are happening, people are leaving, others are arriving – that’s about it.”
