As Fernando Alonso renews with Aston Martin, Valtteri Bottas foresees a fast-paced shift in the 2025 F1 driver market.
Valtteri Bottas expects the 2025 F1 driver market to rapidly evolve following Fernando Alonso’s renewal with Aston Martin.
Bottas, whose contract ends this season, is striving to retain his seat with Sauber, soon to be Audi F1 team.
However, Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg have been strongly linked with a move to the Swiss-based team from 2025 to spearhead the German project. Hulkenberg is even rumored to have a three-year contract awaiting his signature (read here).
It’s unclear where this will leave the Finn next season in an especially turbulent driver market.
“I feel like things are going to start moving very soon,” says Bottas when asked if he fears stagnation due to internal affairs at Red Bull.
“There are rumors about Max but I don’t think it will affect much of the grid.”
“For instance, Fernando has decided to stay put so that’s settled, decisions need to be made at some point.”
“Right now, there aren’t many decisions, but of course, there are questions about certain drivers. What will Carlos do? What will Mercedes do?”
“So I would say ideally, in the coming weeks, things will start to move. I don’t believe everything will drag on until late summer. It’s going to liven up quickly.”
“So I’m also working on my options, of course, and discussions have begun.”
