Haas F1 Signs Bearman: 2025 Entry Confirmed

04/07/2024

Britain’s Oliver Bearman is set to enter Formula 1 with Haas in 2025. The 19-year-old reserve driver has signed a multi-year contract, marking a significant step in his motorsport career.

It’s now official, without much suspense: the Haas F1 Team has signed Briton Oliver Bearman to a multi-year contract starting in 2025.

The 19-year-old, a member of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, is currently the official reserve driver for the team while competing in the Formula 2 Championship for Prema Racing.

Bearman secured his first victory of the 2024 campaign last weekend in Austria in the Sprint race, adding to his tally of four wins during an outstanding rookie season in 2023.

In his additional role as a reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari, Bearman made a memorable Formula 1 debut in March in Saudi Arabia, replacing Carlos Sainz and becoming the third youngest driver in F1 history. A mature performance from the 18-year-old Chelmsford native saw Bearman finish seventh and score points in his sole race appearance driving the SF-24.

A regular with the Haas F1 Team, Bearman participated in two Free Practice 1 sessions for the Kannapolis-based team in 2023, in Mexico and Abu Dhabi, followed by a full day in the VF-23 during post-season testing in Abu Dhabi. Announced as the official reserve driver for Haas F1 Team in January this year, Bearman’s work with the team this season includes six Free Practice 1 sessions, with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend marking his third appearance in the VF-24, followed by Hungary, Mexico, and Abu Dhabi.

“It’s hard to put into words what this means to me,” said Oliver Bearman. “Saying out loud that I will be a Formula 1 driver for Haas F1 Team makes me extremely proud.”

“Being one of the few people to do what they dreamed of as a child is truly incredible. To Gene, Ayao, and everyone at Haas, thank you for believing in me and trusting me to represent your team.”

“I’ve really enjoyed working with everyone since we first met in Mexico, and I’m looking forward to sharing this moment with them and, hopefully, many more in the future. To Fred, Marco, Jock, Alessandro, and everyone at the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, simply put, I wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you for preparing me from F4 for this incredible opportunity, and know that I will give it my all.”

“It’s an exciting experience to be able to give a young driver as talented as Oliver Bearman his first full-time Formula 1 seat,” added Ayao Komatsu, Haas F1 Team Principal.

“He has become an incredibly mature driver under the guidance of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, and the world saw that when he was called up last minute to compete in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Oliver proved he was more than ready for the task, and we’ve seen that ourselves by running him in our Free Practice 1 sessions over the past two seasons.”

“We look forward to further developing him as a driver and reaping the benefits of his talent, both on and off the track. Oliver is a great guy and a very welcome addition to the team when he joins us for Free Practice 1 weekends. We now know that this relationship will be long-term, which is a positive thing for all parties involved.”

Gene Haas, owner of the Haas F1 Team, concluded: “I’m pleased we were able to give Oliver Bearman this opportunity to drive full-time in Formula 1. He is undoubtedly a promising newcomer, not only because of what he showed in Saudi Arabia but also because of the time he has spent developing his relationship with our team.”

“I’m personally excited to see him evolve as a driver, and we look forward to seeing him flourish for Haas F1 Team next season and beyond. It’s an exciting time for the team. Signing Oliver shows we continue to invest in talent, both on and off the track, as we continue to compete at the highest level.”
