Andretti Global aims to join F1, challenging industry leaders Ferrari and Mercedes, embracing significant risks.
Michael Andretti is convinced that the Andretti Global project for F1, which will include the involvement of General Motors through its Cadillac brand, would be very beneficial for the sport as well as for the involved companies.
“It’s very good,” Andretti told RACER. “There are a lot of developments happening there, a lot of developments happening at General Motors, and also a lot of developments at our headquarters in Fishers, so there’s a lot of work underway. It’s a risk, but I think it shows how much we believe in this project.”
“We believe it’s a good thing for Formula 1, we think it would be good for American fans, and I believe bringing a company like General Motors into Formula 1 is huge. We believe in it so much that we’re willing to roll the dice.”
“We are very committed and very excited. I think people won’t understand, until we show them, the efforts being made on both sides. We’re going to compete with Ferrari and Mercedes through the efforts of a major corporation like GM.”
“We are working, we are trying to better communicate and see what we need to do to be admitted. No, we are not there yet, but things are becoming clearer. We will soon need answers, but we are working on certain things and hope to have some answers soon.”
Andretti did not expect, however, to see the U.S. Congress get involved in his team’s affairs and those of Liberty Media: “I was surprised, but I stay out of it. I am here to build the team and that’s what I’m doing, but it is certainly great to have people like them looking at what’s happening and supporting us.”
