Alpine F1 completed 108 laps today in Barcelona, with 58 for Pierre Gasly and 50 for Franco Colapinto.
Only the Frenchman’s A525 featured some new parts, including a new floor.
Gasly recorded the eighth-fastest time in Free Practice 2, which he found quite encouraging.
“We have a lot to analyse after this intense day of testing in Barcelona. The feel has slightly changed with the new parts and, in the end, I’m satisfied with the step forward we made in performance between FP1 and FP2. We improved our understanding of the car’s new characteristics and there’s clearly more to come. At this stage of the weekend, we are in a much better place than we were in Monaco. The car seems to be in a good window and it will be important to fine-tune some details tomorrow if we want to take another step forward, as teams tend to do on Saturdays. So far, the feeling is good and I plan to build on that in qualifying.”
Franco Colapinto’s pace, on the other hand, was concerning, as he consistently lagged a second behind his teammate. The Argentine finished both free practice sessions in last place.
“It wasn’t the best Friday on my side of the garage, with two rather tricky sessions. We struggled with the overall balance of the car, especially on the harder tyres. I just didn’t have good sensations behind the wheel, so we need to go through the data to look for improvements ahead of tomorrow. I’m hopeful we’ll find something, because the car clearly has pace on this circuit. Tomorrow we’ll need a solid run in Free Practice 3 to make progress before qualifying. We’ll keep working hard with the team and I’m looking ahead, ready to deliver better performances.”
