Alpine F1 Debuts Upgrades Amid Suzuka Weather Woes

Alpine F1 Team Successfully Tests Upgrades at Rainy Suzuka

05/04/2024

Amid challenging conditions at Suzuka, Alpine F1 tested its season’s first upgrades, with Ocon optimistic about the weekend.

Alpine F1 managed to test its first season upgrades at Suzuka, despite a challenging Friday due to weather conditions and a red flag. Esteban Ocon expressed satisfaction with the day’s program during the opening day of the Japanese Grand Prix.

“It was amazing to see so many fans on a Friday, as is always the case at Suzuka,” Ocon remarked. “It’s unfortunate they couldn’t see much action in the afternoon, so I’m hoping for a better weekend ahead.”

“Today’s aim was to get an initial feel for the car’s performance with the upgrades. It seemed to meet our expectations in FP1, and we had planned to try something different for FP2, but were unable to due to the mixed conditions.”

“Given the limited running, it’s hard to get a complete picture, but we’ll analyze and learn from today to prepare for tomorrow’s final practice session. It promises to be intense for everyone as we gather as much information as possible before heading into qualifying.”

Pierre Gasly also felt pleased, though he lamented having to stay in the garage during FP2: “We tested several things in Free Practice 1, our only track time on this first day in Japan. There was a bit of rain in the afternoon, unfortunately at the wrong time, so we stayed in the garage for that hour.”

“We learned a lot about the new parts in the morning. Everything worked as expected, and we have valuable data to analyze to confirm additional elements. That’s always the most important in testing, especially when you bring your first upgrades.”

“We’ll see what we can do to improve the car before tomorrow’s qualifying. There have been no surprises so far, and all eyes are on the rest of the weekend.”
