Alpine Halts Andretti F1 Talks Without FOM Approval

08/02/2024

Alpine F1 and Renault pause discussions with Andretti on F1 entry pending FOM’s nod. Director Famin cites the need for formal participation approval as crucial for negotiations to proceed.

Alpine F1 and the Renault group will no longer engage in discussions with Andretti about joining the premier category until the American team secures its participation approval from the FOM.

“We had a preliminary contract, and nothing followed,” says director Bruno Famin. “However, it was contingent on Andretti securing this participation.”

“For now, they have no commitment. I’ve read, just like you, what the FOM has stated about 2028. Let’s see what the future holds after that.

Famin reveals that negotiations with Andretti are currently at a standstill: “No, since the FOM provided their response, I haven’t had any discussions.”

It’s not specifically against Andretti, but Famin explains that Alpine is aligning with the FOM: “We would be very happy to have an 11th team in F1 if it brought real added value to the championship.”

“It was up to the FOM to evaluate the added value of this project. They conducted the analysis, they provided their response. It was their decision, and we are pleased with it.”

“But I think it’s on a case-by-case basis. This isn’t a general stance. If F1 says one day that an 11th team could bring a lot of added value to the championship, we would be very pleased.”
