Alonso Urges Aston Martin to Keep Momentum Going

After scoring his first points of the season in Canada, Fernando Alonso stresses the need for continued progress at Aston Martin.

Fernando Alonso had to wait until the ninth race of the season to break into the top 10, but he now hopes that his team’s progress will be reflected in results. The Aston Martin F1 driver is hopeful that Canada will help confirm the progress seen since the car updates.

“Scoring the first points is good news, but we have to keep improving the car. The last few races have been better, and Montreal has always been a good circuit for us, so we have to keep going like this,” said Alonso, who is pleased to see Lance Stroll return this weekend.

“It’s never a good situation when you’re not at 100% in the car. But he’s back at 100%, he’s racing here and showing his commitment, he’s showing that he’s working hard to be in the car and that’s good for him, especially in Canada for his home race.”

This week, the 2026 Formula 1 calendar was officially announced, and with it the arrival of Madrid as a round of the world championship. Barcelona will also feature during the season, which is something the Oviedo driver welcomes.

“It’s very good news for Spain to have two races, Madrid will join the calendar and I hope people will enjoy the Spanish capital and the show the city will surely offer everyone. I’m happy to discover another circuit, and I’ll have been lucky enough to race on three tracks in Spain with Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona.”

While Max Verstappen is one penalty point away from a race suspension, Alonso acknowledges that he wouldn’t like to be in that situation, but that it can happen: “It happens in all sports, like with yellow cards you accumulate, and sometimes you miss a big match because of accumulated yellow cards.”

“I hope we don’t get to that situation, we had that with Kevin last year, but for us as drivers, it’s very tough to have to miss a race. Sometimes we agree with some penalty points, and others are more difficult.”
