Alonso urges Aston Martin to chase down F1’s elite

Alonso calls for Aston Martin to step up their game, while Stroll leaves his home Grand Prix weekend disappointed and penalised.

Fernando Alonso secured his second consecutive points finish with seventh place at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Aston Martin F1 driver believes there was potential for an even better result during the race, but he praised the progress made with the AMR25.

“I’m fairly happy, the car felt good all weekend, but the race was the weakest point. Thanks to sixth in qualifying, we created a gap that acted as a safety net before the pit stops. A well-executed weekend and good points for the team,” Alonso said.

Recent upgrades are proving effective: “We have more confidence to push, but there are still weaknesses that aren’t fully resolved, especially in the race. There’s still work to do, we’re at the front of the midfield, and now we must close in on the top teams.”

Lance Stroll was frustrated with his 17th-place finish after receiving a penalty for forcing Pierre Gasly onto the grass: “It was a long and tough day, I don’t have much more to say.”

Refusing to comment on the incident with the Alpine, he simply expressed disappointment with his home GP: “I’m not happy with my weekend. We need to find areas to improve before the next race.”
