Williams F1 and Alex Albon impressed in Friday practice at the Canadian Grand Prix, showing strong form and targeting Q3 in Montreal.
Williams F1 delivered an impressive performance this Friday in Canada, with very fast lap times and a final fourth place for Alex Albon, who expressed his excitement at seeing the FW47 return to its comfort zone in Montreal.
“A very positive day. We came out flying; we may have had a different programme to others in FP1, but FP2 went well. The baseline car is strong, we’ve got a good package, and Q3 is well within our target for tomorrow,” said Albon.
“However, there’s still work to do to improve the car, which is a good thing, as it shows we have broader areas to explore. At the same time, since we’re quick, we don’t want to change too much, so it’s about finding the right balance.”
Carlos Sainz ended the day in seventh and believes Williams could do even better with some progress: “Good feeling today. Realistically, FP1 was a bit misleading regarding our position in the standings.”
“But in FP2, we were still fighting in the top 10, so we’re more or less where we hoped to be. There’s still work to be done tomorrow, but we seem to be in good shape. We’ll focus on tyre strategy and keep building confidence on this circuit.”
