Amid speculation of Verstappen’s exit, Alex Albon finds himself uncomfortably caught in the rumors as he attempts to stay focused on the upcoming Miami Grand Prix.
With rumors swirling about Max Verstappen’s departure from Red Bull and a complete takeover by the Thai shareholder through Christian Horner, Alex Albon’s name is emerging as a favorite for a seat with the world champion team in 2025. When asked about this, the Williams F1 driver deflected sharply this Thursday in Miami.
“I prefer to stay out of it. It’s more for the team management to decide at this time,” said Albon. “It’s inevitable, unfortunately; we get a lot of questions about this.”
“But I think everyone has seen how early this happens, and it has been very uncomfortable for many teams, as well as for drivers, as you can imagine. So I have nothing more to say, just focus on my work here.”
Asked about his expectations for the Miami Grand Prix, he hopes the FW46 will be in better shape this weekend, and he believes his team can shine more than last year thanks to the design philosophy of his car.
“I believe so. On paper, we should be more competitive this weekend, not with upgrades, just because the track suits our car better. It will be interesting to see where we stand in terms of setups, it could be different from others.”
“We had a good car in the simulator, we are in a good position, we have a third chassis, we can focus more on the current season, we are stronger and we can also look to the future.”
“If you look at last year, we had a car that wasn’t the fastest, but close to the points. We qualified 12th, we didn’t have a very good race, but we focused on the turns, between the FW45 and the FW46, that this circuit has, so I am optimistic.”
