Williams F1 faces ongoing adversity with crashes involving Sargeant and Albon, testing team resilience.
Weekends of struggle persist for Williams F1. Following Logan Sargeant’s crash in FP1, it was Alex Albon’s turn to hit the barrier, pushed by Daniel Ricciardo. Team principal Jales Vowles reassures about the health of his driver but describes a challenging situation.
“He’s okay, mentally frustrated but physically fine, which is most important to me, that both he and Daniel emerged unscathed. It’s a big shock, and he’s fine, with no injuries,” Vowles stated, indicating no serious damage.
“The car stopped at turn 5; we sent someone to take pictures. It seems there’s damage to the right front, coincidentally. But it looks fixable from the photos.”
A chassis still needing a factory return
However, he later confirmed to Speedcafe that Albon’s chassis had to be sent back to the factory for checks. Vowles discusses how this series of incidents will affect the team.
“The past two weeks have been tough. For any team, three significant accidents affecting nearly all parts of the car is substantial. It’s manageable over a season, but challenging over a few weeks.”
“We have to manage spare part production, and it will impact development. We can’t bring as many updates, and the evolutions that were on the car are destroyed, so we’ll replenish stock.”
“We hope to recycle parts, but everything seems destroyed. One of the organization’s great strengths is resilience. It has gone through so much over the last ten years… I know we’ll bounce back and move forward.”
The British leader finds a silver lining in the pace of his other driver: “And what’s encouraging is that Logan was competing with our rivals during the race. This reassures me that the car isn’t bad. And it’s very close from RB Visa to us and up to Alpine.”
The American had a minor off-track excursion into the gravel: “All drivers were pushing the limit; he went off but was able to reverse, and from what I’ve seen, there’s no damage.”
