FIA President Ben Sulayem had valid reasons to delay the Las Vegas circuit’s approval, emphasizing safety and timely completion.

Ben Sulayem discussed certifying the new Las Vegas track before allegations emerged suggesting he attempted to interfere with the approval process to block the Grand Prix at the last minute.

“The FIA president is the one who signs off on the homologation for the new track, or for any track,” he told GP Racing.

“I supported it. I could have said no, because it wasn’t ready in time for inspection.”

“But as soon as my team said it was safe… because I’m a driver, I care about the well-being of the drivers and the people around them, our staff, and the marshals. I went ahead.”

“If I had said no, it would have been disastrous for F1. But it would have been legal. However, I am cautious because I love this sport. Ultimately, we are in the same boat. We might have different missions. But we are in the same boat. We cannot let the sport sink.”
