Ferrari’s Vegas Damage Saga: F1 2023 Insurance Battle
Vasseur has announced that his team has reopened the case regarding the dislodged manhole cover in Las Vegas. During FP1, Carlos Sainz hit the manhole cover, resulting in significant damage. Ferrari incurred substantial costs at the time to repair the car in time for the main race.
Ferrari had a challenging start in Las Vegas: Sainz’s car suffered damage from a dislodged manhole cover in the first ten minutes of practice. This caused repair costs and a grid penalty for Sainz, violating parc fermé rules. Team boss Vasseur confirmed Ferrari filed an insurance claim for the Las Vegas Grand Prix during the team’s Christmas lunch.
Vasseur: Insurance Delays Discussions
When asked during lunch if he had any answers regarding who would cover the costs of the damage to Sainz’s car, Vasseur responded in the negative. “You know that when you engage in discussions with insurance, it takes ages!” he was quoted by, among others, PlanetF1. “That’s the case everywhere, including in F1. We have time to have the discussion; we reopened the case yesterday or the day before. But it would be fair (for the insurance company to reimburse the costs)!”
