Günther Steiner explores fresh avenues in the F1 world, transitioning into media and TV while reflecting on his tenure with Haas.
The former Haas F1 team principal, occasionally appearing as a consultant on Sky Germany or Canal+, has also agreed to pen a regular column for the official F1 website.
“Life has been wonderful since I left Haas ahead of this season. The past few weeks marked the first time I’ve stepped away from F1 in about a decade. This break came at the right moment for me. The more time passes, the more I realize I stayed at Haas too long.”
“Distance brings clarity, allowing you to see what needs to be done. When you’re in the thick of it, you’re in denial, thinking you can make it work when you can’t.”
“While I was there, with what we had, we could still aim for seventh, eighth, or ninth place – but competing for podiums wasn’t feasible without the same resources as others. Pursuing that in the long run isn’t what I want from life. I’m done with settling for seventh. I’ve been there. I want to be in the fight, at the front.”
“When Toto Wolff started at Mercedes, the team wasn’t at the forefront. Yes, they had the engine advantage early on, but he laid the groundwork for medium-term success – and they clinched eight constructors’ championships. It’s the same story with Red Bull. How long did it take them? They improved year on year. Patience and long-term planning are essential.”
“I would return to F1 in the future, but it has to be the right project, well-organized.”
