Aston Martin F1 aims to extend Fernando Alonso’s contract, valuing his exceptional talent and leadership as a pivotal asset for the team’s future success.
Aston Martin F1 is not hiding its intention to extend Fernando Alonso’s contract beyond the current season, as the two-time world champion is Silverstone’s team top priority. However, Mike Krack, its director, is aware that the Spaniard must first decide what he wants to do with his future before negotiations can begin.
“It’s no secret that he wants to first decide for himself what he wants to do. And I think it’s also no secret that I keep saying we want to continue working with Fernando,” Krack stated.
“I’ve also said that the most important thing is to give him a fast car, so that he believes in this project, believes in this team, and everything we’ll discuss in the coming weeks. Now, it’s clear that a driver of his caliber is attractive to everyone, that’s clear, but we’re going to try to keep him.”
Krack praises Alonso’s leadership role within Aston Martin: “It’s not just what he brings in terms of driving talent and racing skill, which we don’t need to debate, but also what he brings extra to the team.”
“He drives, pushes, and motivates everyone, and sets an example from morning to night. He’s exemplary. And that’s something that positively infects the entire team, something you want to preserve.”
When asked about Aston Martin’s potential interest in recruiting a driver like Max Verstappen should Alonso leave, Krack deflects and reminds that it does not depend on his team: “As far as I know, Max has a contract.”
