In the Saudi Arabian qualifiers, Alex Albon’s strategic drive secured 12th place for Williams, setting a promising tone for tomorrow’s race.
Alex Albon once again pulled off a rescue act for Williams F1 during the qualifiers today in Saudi Arabia.
The Thai driver qualified 12th and is relying on his race pace to chase potential points tomorrow.
“I’m quite pleased with my 12th place but I know we’re still missing a few tenths to make it into Q3, so we’re a bit further off from where we want to be but it’s good progress,” shares Alex Albon.
“We have a strong race pace and I think we’ll be able to manage the tires quite well tomorrow. Although we struggled a bit today, our race pace seems to be slightly better than some of our competitors, so we’ll see what we can do with that tomorrow.”
Logan Sargeant was only 19th in this qualification, over four tenths behind his teammate in Q1. However, he hardly ran in FP3 (having hit a wall) and thus couldn’t advance in understanding his car.
“We had the car in a good position all weekend and it was definitely capable of qualifying for Q2. It would have been better without my mistake in FP3.”
“Our first qualifying lap was exactly what it needed to be, but a very compromised lap on the second run prevented us from getting the tires into the right temperature window. It looks like tomorrow will be a high-paced race and our long runs look promising, so I hope we can gain some places.”
