On the Saudi Arabian GP’s first day, Aston Martin F1 showcased their prowess, with Alonso leading FP2. Despite his cautious stance, the team’s comfort on the track is evident.
The opening day of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was a positive one for Aston Martin F1, with Fernando Alonso clocking the fastest time during FP2. The Spanish driver remains cautious, yet the team appears more comfortable on this high-speed track compared to the slower circuit in Bahrain.
“I feel good,” shares the two-time world champion.
“Obviously, these are just free practices. As we saw last year, and also in Bahrain, we are faster in free practices than in qualifying. I believe we’re implementing a different testing strategy, in terms of fuel loads, engine modes, etc.”
“We’re executing our program smoothly, there weren’t really any issues with the car. The possibilities for adjustments are also quite open for tomorrow. But yes, it’s definitely a good Thursday for us.”
When asked about Aston Martin’s long-run pace ahead of Saturday night’s Grand Prix, Alonso stressed that he didn’t have an insight into it yet.
“We’ve just gotten out of the car and had to come here to talk to you, so I have no idea.”
Lance Stroll confirms the strong form of the British team, as he moved into the top 5 in the second session and seemed to have no trouble posting a good time: “It’s always nice to drive here with the high speeds, it’s exciting in the car, so it’s cool. We’re going to keep pushing!”
