The 2024 F1 winter testing wrapped up in Sakhir, marking a successful end with no major incidents. Teams focused on final adjustments, setting the stage for an unpredictable season start.
The 2024 F1 season’s winter testing concluded this Friday afternoon in Sakhir, with the final half-day session extending directly from the morning, following a pause due to the kerbs.
The day ended on a productive note, with no track exits or significant mechanical issues reported. Surprisingly, there were few very fast laps under qualifying conditions, making it difficult to establish a clear pecking order.
Charles Leclerc finished the week on top with a time of 1’30″322 on C5 tyres, completing 74 laps. Along with Carlos Sainz, who finished ninth with his morning time, Ferrari completed 145 laps.
George Russell was second with 67 laps on C4 tyres, less than a tenth behind Leclerc. Guanyu Zhou, who ran 85 laps today, ended third on C4 tyres towards the end of the day.
Max Verstappen came in fourth with the best time on C3 tyres at 1’30″755. The Dutchman did not test on softer compounds than those to be used next week in the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Yuki Tsunoda followed with 50 laps, ahead of Alex Albon who completed 119 laps for Williams F1 today. The Thai was the only one on track for the team, outpacing Oscar Piastri and his 87 laps. Fernando Alonso is eighth ahead of Sainz and Sergio Pérez, who also set his time on C3 medium tyres.
Nico Hülkenberg, the most prolific driver among those doing a half-day, is followed by Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll. Lando Norris is 14th with his 20 morning laps ahead of Pierre Gasly, Kevin Magnussen, Esteban Ocon, Valtteri Bottas, and Daniel Ricciardo.
It’s worth noting that Sainz holds the best time of the week, set yesterday afternoon. Alpine remains the only team not to have clocked a time under the 1 minute 32 mark, but the program for the A524 remains undisclosed.
